Sunday Morning Guest Speaker
TOM WADDILL - 07/22/08 Born - May 9, 1934, at North Garden,
VA, 18 miles south of Charlottesville.
At age 4, moved to Prince Edward and grew up on a farm 14 miles south of Farmville,
VA.
Attended and was graduated from Worsham High School, Worsham, VA, in 1951.
Attended and was graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and University
in 1955 with a B.S. in Animal Science.
Served 4 years in the USAF as a C-123 pilot.
Attended and was graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in
1962 with a B.D. with languages.
Completed Pastoral Care training at Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem NC, in
1963.
In 1957 he met and married Lucille Howard, a nurse from Duplin County, NC
They had 4 children, Tom, Jr., born in Fayetteville, NC; Howard, born in Lynchburg,
VA; Sallie, born in Lynchburg, VA;
and Angela, born in Chitambo Hospital, Serenje District, ZAMBIA.
They have 8 grandchildren.
After serving churches in Spout Spring, West Point, and Marion, VA,
Tom and Lucille were appointed in 1972 as Missionaries to Zambia, in southern
Africa, by the Foreign Mission Board (now International Mission Board) of the
Southern Baptist Convention.
After a year of language study, they served the remainder of their 27 years
at Kalwa Farm, in the Serenje District.
Lucille used her nursing skills to minister through a back yard clinic.
Tom served as farm manager for the mission owned farm, helped establish churches,
and helped guide the training of church leaders from throughout Serenje District.
Tom and Lucille retired in 1999, and established their home just east of Angier,
NC.
Lucille was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998, and after a 5 year struggle,
succumbed in February, 2004.
God then gave Tom a new help-meet, and he married Laura Danner, from Boone,
NC, in March, 2005.
Tom and Laura are members of the Coats Baptist Church, Coats, NC, where they
sing in the choir, and he is a deacon and substitute Sunday School Teacher.
